Anil Rice Mills

Anil Rice Mills is on Rajgarh Road, specifically in the Rajinderpura Kothe area of Barnala district. It’s a bit of a trek to get here if you aren't from the area. We are surrounded by fields on most sides. When the rice is growing, everything is green as far as you can see. Then it turns gold and that’s when our real work starts. The mill has been part of our family for a bit. We put in a lot of hours during the peak months. The machines hum all day and night sometimes. We have a small shed where the workers can rest and cook their meals. It gets quite lively during the break times. We don't have any polished brochures or anything. If you want to know something, you just come and ask. The yard is usually full of empty gunny bags waiting to be filled. We have to be careful about the moisture in the air because it messes with the grain. Barnala can get quite dusty, so we are always cleaning the vents. It’s a basic operation. We focus on getting the paddy through the mill without too many hitches. Sometimes the parts are hard to find when something breaks, and we have to wait for someone to bring them from the city. We just keep moving forward. It’s what we do. It’s hard work, but it’s what keeps the lights on for us and the guys who work here.
