The Modern School Barmer

The Modern School Barmer is situated near NH-15 in Gadan. We are right on the edge of things here in Barmer. It’s a dusty place sometimes, especially when the wind picks up off the highway and blows through the yard. We’ve got a decent building with enough rooms for the students who come here. It’s not as "modern" as the name might make it sound to some people, but for us, it’s a good setup. We have the basics like blackboards and desks and some books. The sun gets really hot in this part of Rajasthan, so we spend a lot of time making sure the fans are working and there is enough water for everyone to drink. We don’t have a big corporate team running things from an office in a different city. It’s just us teachers and the principal. We handle everything from fixing a broken chair to planning the daily lessons. Most of our students live in Gadan or come in from the nearby areas on their cycles. We see the trucks going by on the NH-15 all day long. It's a busy road but once the school gates are closed, we just focus on the classes. We don't have a lot of glossy pamphlets to give out. If you want to see the school, you just come by and we will show you around the classrooms ourselves. It's a straightforward place with a lot of hard-working kids and staff just doing their best every day.
