Maha Vinayak Ice Cream

Our shop is over in Ward No.-22 in Balotra, right near the New Bus Stand in Noorani Mohalla. Since we are so close to where the buses come and go, there is always dust blowing in from the road. We spend a lot of time wiping down the glass tops of the ice cream chests. Running Maha Vinayak Ice Cream in Barmer means dealing with a lot of heat most of the year. People getting off the long-distance buses look pretty tired and thirsty, so they usually head straight over here. We have a couple of lights that flicker sometimes, and the noise from the bus engines is constant, but you get used to it after a while. My cousin helps me out behind the counter when it gets crowded in the evenings. We keep the inventory tucked in the back room and bring it out as we need it. It’s not a very big space, but it’s enough for what we do. Sometimes the delivery truck is late because of the traffic near the station, and we have to tell people to come back later. It’s just the way things go here. We try to keep things organized, but on busy days, there’s always a bit of a rush that leaves us tired. We just focus on keeping the freezers running and the floor swept. We do not use any fancy computer systems, just a notebook and a pen for the day.
