Vimal Tyre Center

Being right at Kamrej Char Rasta means we see everything that happens on the road. Vimal Tyre Center is located over at Matru Kripa Society, right across from Ami Hospital. It’s a spot where people are always stopping because their tires gave out or they just need some air before a long drive. We’ve got stacks of rubber everywhere. It smells like a garage, which I guess it is. On a typical Tuesday, it’s just the sound of the air compressor and the cars whizzing by towards the highway. We’ve been at units 41 and 42 for years now. The hospital across the street is always busy, so there’s a constant stream of ambulances and visitors. Sometimes we sit out on the little ledge when it’s quiet, just watching the traffic go by. It’s not a glamorous job, getting your hands greasy and dealing with heavy truck tires in the heat. But it’s what we know. My hands are usually stained black by noon, and no amount of soap really gets it all off at the end of the shift. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just see the sign when they’re stuck at the traffic light and pull in. We have a few old stools for people to sit on while they wait, and maybe a newspaper that’s a couple of days old. It’s a straightforward life here at the junction. We open up, fix what’s broken, and go home when the sun sets.
