Vardhman Marble & Granite

Our place, Vardhman Marble & Granite, is situated right opposite the Tulcea Hotel. We are also quite close to Subham Ceramic, so this little stretch has a few of us doing similar work. It’s handy for people because they can see different things in one trip. We have a lot of granite here, and the slabs are heavy, so we have to be very careful how we stack them. The sun can get really hot reflecting off the stone in the middle of the day. We usually have a bit of a mess with the offcuts and the water we use for cooling the blades. It’s not a polished showroom; it’s a working yard. You can hear the sound of the stone being moved and the trucks idling out front. We spend a lot of time showing people the different grains in the granite. No two pieces are exactly the same, which is the interesting part of the job. Sometimes we get a big order and the whole place is a hive of activity for days. Other times, it’s just us tidying up and making sure everything is where it should be. We’ve been at this spot for a while and the hotel across the street is a good landmark for people who aren't from this part of town. It’s just a normal day of lifting and shifting for us. We just keep our heads down and get the work done as it comes.
