You’ll find Valson Valves Co. right beside Hotel Manila in Kapasia Bazar, over in the Kalupur area. It’s a very old and crowded part of the city, and the streets are quite narrow and always full of people, handcarts, and stray dogs. We’ve been in this exact spot for many years now. We specialize in valves of all sorts and sizes. If you walk into our shop, you’ll see rows and rows of metal parts stacked on old wooden shelves that reach the ceiling. It’s a bit dark inside the store, but we know exactly where every single item is located. The bazar is a noisy place, with everyone shouting over each other and the sound of iron being moved on the pavement. We actually like it here though. It has a certain kind of energy that you don't find in the newer malls. We don’t have a corporate office with glass walls or carpets. We have a small wooden desk near the front where we keep the big ledger and the phone. Most of our customers are people we’ve known for decades, or their sons who have taken over the family businesses. We talk about the local news and the weather while we pull out the parts they need. It’s slow work sometimes, but we are very thorough about it. Dealing with valves means you have to be precise, or things will start to leak later on. We take a lot of pride in just getting the right part to the right person. Kalupur is a bit chaotic, but it’s our home.
