Our farm is situated out in Village Amrah, right along NH 2. If you are driving down the highway, you can usually find us by looking for the Tara Maa Hotel landmark. Being out here near Jamalpur is a lot different than being in the city. We have more space but also more dust from the road. Our days are tied to the animals and the seasons. We wake up when the cows do, which is usually very early. The house at NH 2 is where we manage everything. It is a mix of outdoor work in the fields and keeping things organized in the office. We deal with the heat, the rain, and the mud that comes with running a dairy farm. It’s not a clean job. You’re always covered in something by the end of the shift. We focus on the health of the herd and getting the milk out to the post office at Abujhati and beyond. The highway is always humming in the background with trucks going to Kolkata or Delhi. We don't have a mission statement. We just have cows that need feeding and milking every single day without fail. It is a simple, hard life and we have been doing it this way for a while now. The routine is what keeps us going through the long weeks.
