If you head out to the village of Ethora, near the Thakur Bari post office, that’s where you’ll find us. We’re out in the Burdwan district of West Bengal, 713359. It’s a bit different than being in a big city office, and we like the change of pace. At Shapoorjipallonji & Co. Ltd., things feel a little more grounded and quiet here. We don't have a glass lobby or a fancy sign out front. It’s a practical building that fits right into the village atmosphere. You can hear what’s going on outside while you work, like the birds or the neighbors. Some days are peaceful and others are full of local noise. We spend our time managing whatever tasks come our way. The office is full of old furniture that’s still sturdy enough for the job. We don’t worry about having the latest tech gadgets or expensive carpets. We just need things that actually work. There’s a lot of back-and-forth between the staff, usually about who’s making the next round of tea or what to eat. It’s a close-knit environment because we’re out here in Ethora. People in the village know who we are. We don’t try to act like some big important entity from the city. We’re just part of the local landscape, doing our daily shifts. It’s basic, it’s honest, and it gets the job done. We show up, we do the work, and then we head home. That’s the long and short of it for us.
