Our office is out on Kanksa Road, near the Panagarh Bazaar post office in the Burdwan district. It’s a bit of a trek from the main city, but this is where the minerals are, so this is where we stay. The road outside can get quite dusty with all the trucks carrying loads back and forth. You get used to the sound of engines after a while. We spend a lot of our time dealing with the logistics of moving minerals and making sure everything is weighed correctly. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know. The office is functional—plenty of files, a few sturdy chairs, and a calendar that’s usually marked up with delivery dates. Panagarh Bazaar is a busy little hub, and we often head out there to grab some lunch or meet with people. The weather out here in Burdwan can be harsh, really hot in the summer and a bit chilly in the winter mornings. We have a team that’s been together for years, so we don’t need to say much to get things done. We just show up, do the work, and deal with the paperwork as it comes. It’s a steady life. We don’t have much use for fancy talk; we just focus on the rocks and the trucks and the weight of the loads.
