This office for Gannon Dunkerley & Co.Ltd. Ced is located way out at the Shankerpur Colliery. We’re near P.O. Ukhra in the Burdwan district of West Bengal. It’s a bit of a different vibe compared to our Mumbai office, but this is where the actual work is. Working near a colliery means there is always a lot of dust and trucks moving around. We are here to handle the engineering side of things for the local projects in the mining belt. It isn’t a glamorous place to work, but it serves our needs just fine. We have a small crew that stays on-site or in the nearby village. We spend most of our time out on the ground rather than sitting behind a desk. It’s about getting the technical details right and making sure the construction moves forward despite the local challenges. We’ve been in West Bengal for a while now and have gotten used to the way things work in this district. The roads can be pretty tough to navigate sometimes, especially when it rains, but we get the equipment through somehow. We don’t use any big fancy words to describe what we do here. We just do the technical work that’s required of us by the project owners. It’s a lot of long hours and practical problem-solving in the field.
