The mill has been a part of this village for a while now. Living and working in West Bengal means rice is everything to us. You can hear the hum of the milling machines from quite a distance when the wind is right. We spend our mornings unloading sacks of paddy brought in from the nearby fields. It gets dusty, and the sun hits the roof hard in the afternoon, but that’s just how it is. We aren’t a corporate office with suits; we’re usually covered in a bit of grain dust by lunchtime. The local farmers know the way to our gate in P.O. Balgona. We handle the drying, the husking, and the packing ourselves. Sometimes the power goes out, and we have to wait around, talking about the weather or the crop prices. It’s a simple life here in the village. We focus on getting the rice ready so it can reach people's kitchens. There’s no big talk about vision or anything. We just want the machines to run smooth and the bags to be full. It’s a lot of manual labor, lifting and stacking, but it feels good to see the finished product piled up at the end of the day. It’s our way of contributing to the local area without any fuss.
