About Bardhamaneswar Rice Mill – Food & Beverages in Bardhaman
Down in Alamganj, right next to Mota Sibtala, you’ll find our place. Bardhamaneswar Rice Mill is tucked away in this part of Nutanganj. It’s a bit of an older area, with narrow paths and plenty of history in the buildings. Being beside the temple means we hear the bells ringing and the people passing by all day long. The mill itself is a sturdy building, though it’s definitely seen better days. We handle a lot of grain here, and there’s always someone moving heavy bags around the floor. It’s a physical job that keeps you moving. The air is often thick with the smell of parboiled rice. Our post office is Nutanganj, and that’s where all our mail goes, though we spend all our actual time here in Alamganj. The workers usually sit outside for a little bit during their lunch break, watching the activity near Mota Sibtala. It’s a local landmark, so nobody ever really gets lost when they are coming to see us. We don’t have any fancy signs or big lights on the building. Just the name painted on the front and the sound of the hulling machines running inside. It gets very loud in there, so we have to shout sometimes to be heard over the noise of the motors. It’s just how life is at the mill. We’ve been here through many rainy seasons when the road floods and the dry months when it's all dust and heat. We just focus on getting the day's work done and going home.
