Maa Hinglaj

Our shop, Maa Hinglaj, is right in Ward No. 34, in the middle of the Indira Market. It is a very busy spot, especially since we are so close to the Subzi Mandi. Every morning, the whole area gets packed with people buying vegetables and shouting out their prices. We are tucked into a small space near the Post Office Bamla. Having the post office nearby is lucky for us because everyone knows where it is and can find us easily. Our shop is pretty small and it gets a bit crowded with all the items we keep in stock. We have to use every bit of the walls to hang things up. It’s not a quiet place to work at all. You can hear the market vendors and the motorbikes going by all day long. We have been in Indira Market for a long time now. We know the other shopkeepers around here and we all look out for each other. Sometimes it gets a bit chaotic with the crowds, but that is just how it is in the mandi area. We don’t have a computer system or anything high-tech to help us. We still write everything down in our paper books. It’s an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us. We open the shutters early and wait for the first wave of customers. It’s a lively, honest way to make a living in Ward 34.
