Working in Anaj Mandi here in Baran means you get used to the dust and the constant noise of tractors. Our place, Hemraj Company, is right in the middle of all that action. If you come by during the harvest season, you can barely hear yourself think with all the shouting and the engines running. It’s a busy life, and we’ve been part of it for a long time. Our space is mostly just a place to store things and keep the records straight. The walls are a bit dusty from the grain, and the floor is always covered in a bit of grit no matter how much we sweep. We deal with the local farmers and the traders who come through the mandi every day. It’s about the crops and the weather mostly. If the rain is good, we’re all happy. If it’s a dry year, things get a bit tense around here. We drink a lot of tea while waiting for the trucks to get weighed or unloaded. It isn't a desk job where you wear a suit. Most of us are in plain clothes that can handle a bit of wear and tear. We know the other shop owners around the mandi, and we all grab lunch from the same spots. It’s a community of people who work hard with their hands and their heads to keep the grain moving. It’s just how things are done in Baran, and we are fine with that.
