We are over here in Handwara, specifically at Bakihakar. Our spot is right by the 250 KVA power station, care of Mod Iqbal Kar. It’s a simple setup where we deal with Merino wool. Around here, everyone knows how important the wool is because the winters get really sharp. We started Handwara Merino Wool Producer Company Limited just to handle the local production and make sure things move along like they should. It’s mostly just us looking at the quality of the fleece and getting it ready for whatever comes next. The work isn't fancy, just honest stuff involving the sheep and the local farmers who bring their clips in. We don’t have a big corporate office or anything like that, just this place in 193221. Sometimes the power goes out, or the roads get a bit messy, but we keep at it. If you’re looking for us, just ask for the place near the transformer in Bakihakar. Most days are spent checking the texture of the wool and talking to the people who grow it. It’s a lot of manual work and keeping track of bags and weights. We aren't trying to be the biggest thing in the state, just a reliable group of people working with what we have here in the valley. It’s been this way for a while now, and we plan to keep the doors open for the local wool growers as long as there is wool to process.
