Al-Fayaz Foundation

We started Al-Fayaz Foundation right here in Sultanpora. Fayaz Ahmad runs things from his place in Baramulla, and most of what we do involves just helping out neighbors when things get tight. It’s not a big fancy office or anything like that. Just some local folks trying to see where a little extra help is needed in our part of the 193101 area. Sometimes we deal with school stuff for the kids, other times it’s just making sure someone has what they need for the winter. It gets cold up here in Baramulla, and everyone knows how hard that can be on a family. We don't have a big staff. It's mostly just us answering the phone and seeing what can be done. People come by the house in Sultanpora often. We’ve been living here forever, so we know the names of almost everyone on the street. It’s just how things work in a small place. If someone is struggling, word gets around eventually. We try to keep things quiet and just do the work. There isn't any big secret to it. We just look at what's in front of us. Most days are busy with regular life, but we carve out time for the foundation work because it feels right for the community. We're just around the corner if anyone needs to drop by. It’s just a local thing, really. No big corporate meetings here, just a lot of talking and figuring things out over tea. We don't even have a secretary. When the doorbell rings, one of us just goes to see who it is. That's just the way it's always been.
