Priyanshi Rice Mill

We are located right across from the old atta mill on Barkham Road. If you are coming through Hari Nagar in Nawabgunj, you can’t really miss us because of the noise from the mill. It’s a dusty job, milling rice. Every day starts early because the farmers bring their grain in and want things done fast. The machinery is loud and sometimes we have to shout just to hear each other over the hum. The floor is always covered in a fine layer of husk, no matter how much we sweep. It’s hard work, and the summers in Nawabgunj get really hot, making the mill feel like an oven. We’ve got a small crew of guys who have been here for years. We don't use fancy computers for everything; a lot of it is just looking at the grain and knowing when it's right. The trucks line up outside on the road, and sometimes the traffic gets backed up, which makes the neighbors a bit annoyed. We just try to get the bags filled and stacked properly. It isn't a glamorous business, and my hands are usually rough by the end of the week. We just focus on the rice and making sure the machines don't break down at the wrong time. It’s a lot of physical labor, moving heavy sacks around all day, but it’s what we know how to do.
