Mumtaz Handloom Fabrics

Our place, Mumtaz Handloom Fabrics, is tucked away in Katra Baradari. We are right behind the Modern Public Inter College. It is a bit of a hidden spot if you don’t know the area well. We’ve been working with handlooms for a long time now. It is a tradition in our family that goes back many years. The looms take up most of the room, and they make a very specific rhythmic sound when they are moving. We don’t have a slick office or air conditioning. It is just a workshop with plenty of dust and thread everywhere. We spend our days watching the patterns take shape slowly. It is slow work, not like the fast machines you see in big cities these days. We sell what we make right here at the workshop. Sometimes people come in just to look at the process and see how the cloth is made. We don't mind that at all. We aren't trying to be a big brand or anything like that. We just like the craft and keeping the old ways going. My son helps with the heavy lifting and the shipping when we have orders to send out. We drink a lot of tea and talk to the other shopkeepers nearby. It is a simple life. We don’t have a catalog or a website. You just see what we have on the day you visit. It all depends on what is currently on the loom.
