Down in Borda, V M Public School is where we spend most of our daylight hours. Banswara is a beautiful area, and out here in the village side, things are a bit slower than the main town. Our school building is pretty simple. We have a few rooms and a space where everyone gathers in the morning. Most of the teachers live nearby, so we often see the students even when school is over. It creates a different kind of bond when you see your teacher at the market or walking down the path. We don't have any high-tech gadgets or air conditioning. We rely on the big trees for shade and the ceiling fans when they are working. The kids come from all over the surrounding fields and houses. Some walk a long way to get here. We make sure the water coolers are filled up every morning because it gets dry out here. There isn't much to say about our history other than we have been here for the community for years. We just teach the subjects, look after the children, and close up the gates when the sun starts to get low. It is honest work. We don't make big promises. We just show up and do the job because these kids need an education. The desks are wooden and simple, and the blackboards are well-used. It feels like home to most of us.
