We have our place, Thomas And Co, inside the dungarpur Super Market. Being in the market means it’s always busy and there’s a lot of noise from all the other stalls and the shoppers walking by. We sell a bit of everything for the house, from kitchen plasticware to small hardware items and some cleaning supplies. It’s the kind of shop where things are piled up pretty high because we try to fit as much as possible into the space we have. I’m usually behind the counter, while someone else helps people find the specific size of a bolt or a particular bucket they are looking for. The market gets very hot in the summer, and we just have a couple of small fans spinning away to keep us cool. It’s a bit of a squeeze when we get our new stock in and have to find room on the shelves that are already full. We don’t have a fancy display or anything like that, just items sitting where there’s space for them. Most of our customers are regulars who have been coming to the super market for years. They know we are in the same spot and they just come in to get what they need without much fuss. It can be exhausting standing all day, but it’s good to be part of the local market life. We spend a lot of time just talking to the other shopkeepers during the slow hours in the afternoon. It is a simple way to earn a living.
