Khushiram Narayandas Brick Field

Khushiram Narayandas Brick Field is out in Village Samogarh. We are quite a distance from the main city, closer to the Post Office in Bansi within Tehsil Pachhar. Working in the brick fields means being at the mercy of the weather in District Siddharthnagar. When it rains, everything stops because the mud won't dry. When it is sunny, we are out there from early morning until the sun sets. The whole place is basically just rows of bricks sitting in the dirt and the big chimneys where they get baked. It is a lot of physical labor, and the workers live nearby to keep things running. We spend our days checking the kilns and making sure the fire is just right. It is not an easy life, and you are always covered in red dust or soot. We don't have a proper office with air conditioning or anything like that. We mostly sit under a makeshift roof to do the accounts and talk to the truck drivers. People from the surrounding villages come to us when they are building a new shed or a house. We don't do anything special, just dig the clay and bake the bricks like it has been done for years. It is a slow, old-fashioned way of doing things, but it keeps us busy throughout the season in Samogarh. We just work the earth and hope for good weather.
