Vera Fashions

Living and working here in West Bengal means you get used to the pace of things pretty quickly. Vera Fashions isn't a huge place, but it's where we spend most of our daylight hours. Usually, the day starts with a bit of cleaning because the dust from the road always finds its way inside no matter how tight we shut the doors at night. We have rows of clothes that we organize by color or material, mostly just because it makes it easier to find things when someone asks. The fans stay on all day to keep the air moving, especially when the humidity gets high in the afternoons. Sometimes we just sit near the entrance and watch the people going about their business. It’s not fancy here. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but they hold up the shelves just fine. Most of the people who stop by are from the neighborhood, and they usually know exactly what they are looking for without needing much help from us. We spend a lot of time checking the inventory and making sure everything is folded right. It’s honest work that keeps us busy from morning till the sun goes down. We don’t have any big corporate goals; we just want to make sure the shop stays open and the bills get paid every month. It’s just how things go for a small business in this part of the world.
