Surya Rolling Mill

Surya Rolling Mill is situated on Maliyara Road in the Bankura district. It’s a bit of a drive out here, surrounded by a lot of open land. The mill is where we spend all our time. It’s an industrial place, so expect a lot of heat and the smell of hot metal. We do rolling work here, processing steel into different shapes. The machines have been with us for a long time and they require a lot of maintenance to keep them running properly. We have a local crew from the nearby villages who work the shifts. It’s a tough environment, especially when the summer heat kicks in. We don't have a big corporate structure or anything like that. Just a small office room where we keep the books and take our tea breaks. The road out front is mostly dirt, so it gets very muddy during the rainy season, which makes transport a bit difficult for the trucks. We mostly deal with local orders and some bigger contracts from the city. We aren't looking for fame, just trying to keep the mill running and everyone employed. It’s a steady life in Bankura. We’ve been here for years and the routine hasn't changed much. We just keep our heads down and get the rolling done. It’s honest work and we are used to it.
