Maa Tara Gura Masala

Maa Tara Gura Masala is located on the Main Road in Gopalgunj, which is in the Bankura district. We make and sell ground spices here at our shop. You can usually smell the strong scent of dried chilies and turmeric before you even see our sign. It’s a small family business that we’ve run for years. We still use the traditional heavy grinders because we think they make the powder better, even if they are a bit loud and slow. The shop is right on the main road, so it’s very easy for people to stop their bikes and pick up a few packets on their way home. We don't have any fancy packaging with bright colors or logos. We just put the spices in simple clear bags and tie them up. We focus on making sure the spices are fresh and that the price is fair for our neighbors. We’ve been in Gopalgunj for a long time, and almost everyone around here knows who we are. We don't have a website or a sales team to go out and find new customers. We just sit in the shop and wait for people to come to us. Sometimes the dust from the spices makes us sneeze all day, but we’ve mostly gotten used to it. It’s hard work, especially when the Bankura heat is high, but it’s the work we know and like. We just keep our machines running and our shelves full every day.
