Charchika Bricks

Our place, Charchika Bricks, is out in Naraganga Village. If you are heading towards Dharmasala Mahavidyalaya, you will find us pretty easily. We are tucked away in the Banki-Dampara Tehsil part of Cuttack District. It is a quiet area mostly, aside from the noise of the trucks coming in and out. The air smells like earth and fire most days. We started this because there was a need for local building materials around the village and the nearby towns. It is a family-type operation where everyone knows their job. We do not have a big marketing department or anyone to answer phones with a script. Usually, someone is just out in the field or near the stacks. We focus on getting the mix right so the bricks do not crumble. It is a lot of physical labor, lifting and moving heavy things all day long. My hands are pretty rough from it, but that is expected. We see a lot of local builders and people just trying to fix up their own homes. We talk about the weather a lot because it really dictates if we can work or not. If the sun is out, we are moving fast. When the monsoon hits, everything slows down and we just wait it out. Being near the college means there is always some activity nearby, but we stay focused on our side of the fence. It is just a regular local business trying to stay busy and provide for our families.
