Sterling Leathers

Our place is over on New Mental Hospital Road, right by the Double Road and Lal Bagh Gate area. It is one of those parts of town that always feels a bit crowded and old. The building is at 1a, and once you step inside, the first thing you will notice is the smell of leather. It is a strong, earthy scent that never really goes away, no matter how much we air the place out. We have rolls of different skins and pieces of leather stacked up on workbenches. It is not a place where everything is perfectly organized into neat little rows. There are scraps on the floor and tools scattered around where someone was just working. We spend most of the daylight hours cutting, measuring, and checking the texture of the materials. The traffic outside near Lal Bagh can get really loud, especially in the evenings when everyone is trying to get home. We don’t have any flashy signs or anything like that. People who know us usually just walk in and ask for what they need. Some of the machines we use are quite old, but they still get the job done better than the newer ones sometimes. It is a bit of a gritty environment, with dark corners and heavy tables. We just keep our heads down and handle the leather. It is honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down and we lock up.
