Silk Museum

We are located in the Mohan Building, specifically at unit 807, right in Chickpet. This building is quite old and has a lot of different businesses squeezed into it. You have to take the elevator, which is one of those old ones with the grill doors that you have to pull shut yourself. Sometimes it gets stuck between floors, so a lot of people just take the stairs instead to save time. Our room is towards the end of the hallway on the eighth floor. It’s not a very big space, but we manage to fit everything we need in there. The walls are lined with boxes from floor to ceiling. We spend a lot of time just sorting through things and making sure everything is where it should be. Chickpet is always loud and the Mohan Building is no different. You can hear people shouting and machines running from the other units throughout the day. We’ve been here so long that we don't even notice the noise anymore. It’s just part of the atmosphere of the market. We usually have a small radio playing in the corner to keep us company while we work. It’s a practical setup. We come in early, do our work, and head home when the market starts to close up. There’s nothing fancy about it, just a solid place to do our business and meet with the people we work with every week. Even when it is raining, the building is full of life and activity.
