Shri Balaji Timber Store

Our timber yard is located in the Assam Timber Market within Swarn Park, over in Mundka. If you know Nangloi, you know this area is full of wood and sawdust. We have stacks of logs and planks piled up everywhere. The smell of fresh cut wood is very strong here, especially after it rains. We spend our days measuring wood and moving the heavy pieces around with the help of a few laborers. It is a dusty place, and the ground is usually covered in shavings and bark. We have a small wooden cabin that serves as our office where we keep the bills and the scales. Most of our customers are builders or people making furniture who come in to pick out specific types of wood. We don't have a fancy display; you just walk through the piles until you find what you like. The traffic in Mundka can be a real headache, so we try to get our deliveries out early in the morning. Sometimes we just sit on a pile of timber and have our lunch while watching the saws work. It is simple, physical work that keeps us busy from morning until sunset. We’ve been in this market for a long time and we know the different kinds of wood just by the feel of the grain. It’s a basic life, but we like being around the timber and the people here.
