Our shop, Sekar Silks, is up on the first floor at 5/1 J M Road. It’s right there in the Ramanna Pet area, which gets pretty crowded during the day. We’ve been here for a good number of years now. The stairs up to the shop are a bit steep, so we tell people to watch their step. Inside, it's just a lot of shelves filled with silk. It isn't a massive showroom or anything like that. My cousin and I usually handle everything ourselves. We open around ten in the morning, though sometimes we’re running a few minutes late if the traffic is bad. Most of our customers are locals who are looking for something for a wedding or a big family function. We keep the fans running all day because it gets stuffy with all the fabric around. There’s a tea stall just around the corner where we usually get our afternoon drinks. Sometimes the stock gets a bit disorganized when it’s busy, but we eventually sort it out by the end of the week. We don't have a big fancy sign outside, just a small one near the entrance. It’s a simple business. We spend most of our time folding and unfolding sarees. It’s quiet in the mornings, then picks up after lunch. We just do our work and try to keep things moving along without much fuss. That’s pretty much the whole story of our little place here. We usually close the shutters by eight.
