Mahalakshmi Granites

You can find Mahalakshmi Granites over at 63/2 on Sarakki Main Road in J.P. Nagar 1st Phase. It’s a place that stays pretty busy because of all the construction going on in this part of town. We have these massive slabs of granite standing up in rows, and they are quite heavy to move around. The floor is often a bit wet because we use water when we're showing the true color of the stone to someone. There is a specific smell of cut stone and wet earth that stays in the air all day. We spend a lot of time walking between the slabs with customers, pointing out the different grains and patterns in the rock. The sun comes in through the front and hits the polished surfaces, which is always nice to see. It’s not a quiet place, especially when the trucks are idling outside on Sarakki Main Road. We use old wooden blocks to keep the slabs from touching each other and getting scratched. Our office is just a small corner with a table and a couple of chairs where we figure out the measurements. We've seen JP Nagar change a lot over the years, but our stone yard has stayed pretty much the same. It’s hard work, but there’s something good about handling natural stone every day. We just try to keep the slabs safe and get them loaded up for the houses.
