Khemchand Bros

If you’ve ever been to Chickpet, you know how packed it gets. We are right in the middle of it at 126 Devatha Market. Khemchand Bros has been a fixture here for a long time, and the shop is exactly what you’d expect from a business in this part of Bangalore. It’s a bit tight inside because we try to keep as much stock as possible on the shelves. Sometimes you have to squeeze past a box or two just to get to the back. We don't have a marketing team or anyone to write fancy speeches. It’s just us brothers and a few helpers making sure folks get what they need. Most of our day is spent unfolding things for customers and then folding them back up again. It’s honest work. The market is loud, with people shouting and carts rattling past, but we’re used to it by now. We open up early and stay until the shutters go down in the evening. There’s no air conditioning, just a few old fans that hum all day long. We know most of the other shopkeepers around Devatha Market, and we all help each other out when someone needs change or a bit of tape. We aren't trying to change the world; we’re just here to sell our goods and make sure the bills are paid. It’s a humble spot, but it’s ours and we’ve been here long enough to feel at home.
