Kaladweepa Music Dance Institute

We are located at 459 Millers Road, which is always a bit hectic with all the traffic outside. Inside, though, it’s mostly just the sound of someone practicing or the rhythmic tapping of feet. The building has been here for years. The front door sticks a little in the rainy season, so you have to give it a good shove. We have different rooms for music and dance. The dance hall has big windows, but we usually keep the curtains drawn so people on the street don't just stare in. It gets quite dusty because of the road work nearby, so there is a lot of cleaning to do every single morning. I spend most of my day sitting on a plastic chair near the entrance, checking people in and answering the landline when it actually works. Sometimes the students bring snacks and we end up with crumbs everywhere, which drives me a bit crazy. We teach people of all ages, from tiny kids who can barely stand straight to older folks who just want to learn a hobby. It isn’t a high-tech place. We have an old stereo and some mats on the floor. It works for us. Most people find us through word of mouth or by just seeing the name while stuck in traffic on Millers Road. It’s a busy life here but we enjoy the noise and the constant movement of people coming and going.
