Chickpet is always a bit of a chaotic place to work, but that’s where you’ll find us at 217/13 in the D C Plaza. Gowra Dyes & Chemicals has been right in the thick of it for years. If you’ve ever been to the plaza, you know it’s a tight squeeze with people everywhere and goods being hauled up and down the stairs. Our shop is packed tight with containers of all sorts. It’s a bit dark inside because the buildings are so close together, but we have some good lights to help us see what we’re doing. There’s always the smell of something or other in the air, usually earthy or sharp, depending on what we opened that morning. We don’t have a lot of space for meetings or anything fancy. Usually, we just talk over the counter or stand in the hallway if it’s busy. The phone rings a lot, and someone is always shouting something to someone else across the floor. It’s a lively environment, to say the least. We don’t bother with fancy uniforms or polished sales pitches. We just know our products and we tell people what’s what. It’s a very practical way of doing things. Lunch is usually whatever someone picked up from the street vendor outside. It’s hard work being in Chickpet, but we wouldn’t really know what to do with ourselves in a quiet office.
