Devi Eye Hsopital

Being on 80 Feet Road in Koramangala 6th Block means there is always a lot of noise right outside our door. If it is not the cars honking, it is the people walking by on their way to some new cafe or shop in the neighborhood. Inside the hospital, it is a bit different, though it is not exactly silent either. We have the usual hum of the testing machines and the nurses chatting while they try to organize the charts for the afternoon. It is a decent-sized space at 434 on 18th Main, but it fills up fast. People come in with all sorts of eye problems, some small and some that take all day to deal with. We do not have a fancy reception desk with a suit-and-tie person. It is usually just one of us trying to figure out where the last patient’s file went or answering the phone. The floors are that old-school tile that stays cold even when it is hot outside. Sometimes the internet goes down and we have to write everything out by hand, which is a bit of a mess but we manage. Bangalore life is fast, so we try to keep things moving so people are not waiting too long on those plastic chairs in the lobby. We have seen this area change so much over the years, but we just keep doing our thing here. It is just regular work.
