Central Silk Board

Our office is in the CSB Complex in BTM Layout, right there in Madiwala. It’s a big, old building that’s been around for a long time. You can’t really miss it if you’re driving through that part of town. We work on everything to do with silk. From the worms to the thread to the final fabric, it all comes through here in one way or another. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the different departments and hallways and heavy wooden doors. We aren't a private company looking for a profit, so the vibe is a bit different than the high-rise offices nearby. It’s more about the steady pace of government work and making sure the standards are met across the industry. Some of us have been working in this building for over twenty years now. We’ve seen the neighborhood change from a quiet spot to one of the busiest hubs in the whole city. The canteen is still the best place to find out what’s actually going on with everyone. We spend our days looking at reports, testing samples, and talking to weavers from all over. It’s not a glamorous job, but silk is a big part of the culture here, so it feels important in a quiet way. We just keep the wheels turning, making sure the silk industry has what it needs to keep going. It’s a lot of paperwork and daily routine for us.
