We are over here at No 471B in the 4th phase of Peenya. If you know Bangalore, you know how Peenya gets. It is busy and loud, but we have been tucked away here for a while now. We mostly deal with batteries. It is not fancy work, just heavy stuff and a lot of lead and chemicals every day. The floor is usually a bit messy, but that is how a battery place looks when you are actually doing the work. Most of us have been here for years, and we know the machines pretty well. Sometimes the power goes out, or the traffic on the main road makes it hard for the trucks to get in, but we manage. We make different kinds of batteries for various uses. Some are small, some are quite big. We do not have a big fancy office with air conditioning everywhere; it is mostly just the workshop and a small desk where we keep the records. We start early in the morning before it gets too hot. Usually, we have tea around eleven and talk about whatever is going on in the city. Peenya has changed a lot since we started, but our spot stays the same. People come by asking for specific sizes, and we see what we have in the back. It is just honest work. We do not do much advertising. People just find us or know us from the neighborhood. We keep the batteries moving and try to keep things running.
