Our office is over on 8th Main in the HAL Second Stage area of Bangalore. If you know the city, you know this part of town gets quite a bit of traffic, especially in the evenings. The building is number 714. It’s a pretty standard concrete structure. We have the space on one of the middle floors. It’s mostly an open plan, so you can see everyone from just about anywhere in the room. We don’t have those fancy partitions you see in big tech parks. There’s a lot of chatter during the day since we’re all sitting close together. We deal with various tasks, mostly keeping track of records and managing the daily flow of information. The windows look out onto the street, so we see people going about their business all day. There’s a small pantry area where we keep the kettle and some biscuits. It’s nothing special, just a place to sit for a few minutes. The rain in Bangalore can be quite sudden, so we always have a few umbrellas leaning by the door. We don’t really have a receptionist or anything. If someone comes to the door, whoever is closest just gets up and answers it. It’s a very straightforward way of running things. We stay until the work is finished, then head out into the Bangalore traffic to get home. It’s a long day sometimes, but it’s what we do.
