Bharath Silks

We are located over on Lalbagh Road, specifically at 185 4th Cross. It is a bit of a quiet corner compared to the main traffic, which we like. Bharath Silks started because we had a connection to the weavers and wanted a place to show their work. It is not a big showroom with air conditioning and fancy lights. Instead, we have shelves piled high with silk that we have sourced ourselves. When you touch the fabric, you can tell it is real. We spend a lot of time checking for small snags or errors in the weave because nothing is perfect when it is handmade. My wife helps the customers choose colors that match what they have in mind. We do not do a lot of talking or sales pitches. The silk speaks for itself, really. Sometimes we have tea with the regulars who have been coming to us since we first opened. It is a slow business. You cannot rush someone picking out a saree for a wedding. We keep the ledger by hand mostly. It feels more reliable that way. The street outside is always changing, with new buildings going up, but our little shop stays pretty much the same. We like the smell of the fabric and the way the light hits the threads in the afternoon. It is just a steady, honest way to spend the day for us.
