Shop number 14 in the Sardar Patel Shopping Center is where we keep all our supplies. It’s a busy little place with people coming in and out from the nearby villages all morning. We deal with stuff for the farmers around here, like seeds and different things for the soil. It usually smells like earth and fertilizer inside the shop. Not everyone likes that smell, but we’ve grown used to it over the years. The shelves are always a bit crowded and messy. Sometimes it takes us a minute to find the exact packet someone is looking for. We spend a lot of time talking to the farmers about the rain and how their crops are doing. It’s mostly just chatting while we weigh things out on the scale. My father ran a shop similar to this one before, so it’s really the only work I know well. We don’t have a marketing team or a website. People just walk in because they know we are here in the center. The light in the back of the shop flickers sometimes, and we keep saying we will fix it, but we never do. Usually, we just eat our lunch right at the counter between customers. It’s a simple way to spend the day. We see a lot of regular faces who come back every single season. They tell us their stories, and we just listen and help with what they need for their land.
