Shree Mahalaxmi Brick Ind is based at Plot No. 124 in the GIDC Estate. Making bricks is not a complicated business, but it is certainly hard work. We spend a lot of time out in the yard dealing with soil and fire. It’s a dusty environment and your clothes never stay clean for long. We don't have a big office with air conditioning. We spend our time near the kilns or checking the rows of bricks drying in the sun. The weather is a big factor for us. If it rains, we have to scramble to cover everything up. When it's dry and sunny, we work as fast as we can to get the production moving. We make the regular bricks that people need for building houses and walls around here. It’s a straightforward process that hasn't changed much in years. My family has been doing this for a while. We don't use any fancy language to describe our work. We just make bricks. We have a few trucks that come in and out every day to pick up loads. Sometimes we are short-handed and everyone has to pitch in with the heavy lifting. It’s just the way it is in a small industry like ours. We like being in the GIDC Estate because everything we need is close by. It’s a busy life, but it’s a good one.
