Garg Vastralay

Garg Vastralay has been sitting on Balrampur Chowk Road for quite some time. We are right in the middle of the Main Market, so there is never a dull moment when the doors are open. The shop is filled with rolls of cloth and different garments piled up on the shelves. It can look a bit overwhelming to someone walking in for the first time, but we know exactly where every piece of fabric is kept. Selling clothes is what the family has done for years, and we just kept the tradition going here at the Chowk. We don't have any fancy displays or mannequins in the window. Instead, we just show people the actual material and let them see it for themselves. The market gets very crowded during the festival seasons, and we often have to stay late into the night just to get everything folded back up. Our counters are scratched from years of measuring out meters of cloth, and the floor is a bit uneven, but it serves us well. We talk to everyone who comes in, whether they are buying a whole bolt of fabric or just a small scrap. It is a lot of standing on our feet and moving heavy boxes around, but that is just the nature of the business. We don't try to compete with the big malls; we just offer what we have in our own simple way. It works out.
