Our small shop is over in Dhusah, right in the Balrampur area. It’s located on the Asha Singh property. It’s a humble place, honestly. We don’t have any fancy decorations or bright lights. Most of the space is taken up by the oven and the storage for the flour sacks. We get our supplies from the local vendors nearby. It’s easier that way. The floor is made of stone and it gets quite cold in the winter. We have to wear extra layers then. In the summer, it’s the opposite. The heat from the oven makes the whole room sweat. We have a small table out front where we keep the finished items. People from the neighborhood stop by on their way to work. We know most of them by name. It’s a quiet routine we have here. We don’t do any advertising. People just see the smoke from the chimney or smell the baking. Sometimes the dough doesn't rise the way we want it to. Those are frustrating days. But we just start over and try again. That is just how it is when you work with your hands. We keep a ledger for our expenses, but it’s mostly just scribbles. It’s not a corporate office. It’s just a place where we make things. We stay busy enough to keep the lights on and that is enough for us. The tea stall next door is where we go for breaks.
