Sri Veerabhadreshwara Kirani Stores

This shop is located at 2548/7 on Ujjani Road in Kottur. It’s a typical kirana store, so we have a bit of everything stacked up on the shelves. Bellary gets quite warm, so the mornings are the best time to get the heavy work done, like moving the big bags of grain or sugar. We’ve been in this building for quite a while. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we haven't gotten around to it yet. Most of the people who come in are our neighbors from around the Kottur area. They come for their daily supplies, and we usually know what they need before they even ask. It’s a slow pace of life here compared to the big cities. We spend some time sitting out front when there aren't any customers, just watching the bikes go by on Ujjani Road. Sometimes a stray dog will sit under the awning to get out of the sun. Dealing with the wholesalers takes up a couple of afternoons a week, which involves a lot of counting and checking lists. We don't have any computers or fancy systems; we just write everything down in the ledger books. It’s just how we’ve always done it. It’s a quiet business, and it keeps the family going, which is the main thing for us.
