Gyatri Marbles

Our shop is at number 855 on Kachery Road, right on the Vivekananda Marg stretch. It is easy to find if you know where the St Vincent’s Convent High School is. The street is always full of students and parents in the morning and afternoon. We have marble slabs leaning against the walls and stacked in the back. They are heavy and cold to the touch. Sometimes the dust from cutting or moving the stone gets everywhere, so we are constantly cleaning the display pieces. It is a narrow space, but we have managed to fit a lot of different types of stone inside. People come in looking for something for their kitchens or floors, and we just show them what we have on the racks. There is no air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that struggle when it gets really humid. We sit on plastic chairs near the front door to catch whatever breeze comes off the road. The noise from the traffic is constant, especially the horns from the buses. Sometimes we help people load the smaller pieces into their cars, but for the big slabs, we have to wait for the loaders. It is a straightforward business where we spend the day talking to customers and checking the quality of the new stock that arrives on the trucks.
