Laxmi Books & Stationary is tucked away right here in Raju Colony. If you know the 6-5-138/A/1 area well, you have probably walked past our front door a dozen times without thinking much about it. The shop is always full of that specific smell of new notebooks and fresh ink. It is a bit of a tight squeeze once we get all the new stock delivered for the start of the school season. We spend a lot of our time just unpacking big cardboard boxes of pencils, rulers, and erasers. My back usually starts to ache by the end of the day from reaching up for things on the very top shelves. The kids from the neighborhood always come in right after school is out. They are usually looking for bright chart paper or a specific type of pen they saw a friend using in class. Sometimes they just come in to stare at the stickers for a while. The floor is made of that old style of tile that is a bit cracked in the far corner. I keep a small wooden stool behind the counter, but I rarely get to sit down on it for very long. R. R. Dist can get incredibly hot in the summer months, so we keep the front door wide open to catch any breeze, even if it brings in a lot of street dust. Telangana summers are really no joke. We have stacks of paper and registers almost everywhere you look. I try to remember where I put everything. It’s a busy little shop.
