Jakati Bricks

We are based at House No. 120 on the Main Road in Turamari, which is in the Bailhongal Taluk of Belgaum district. This is a family-run thing, and we work right out of our own area. The main road is right there in front of us, so we see everyone passing through the village all day. It can get pretty wet here in Belgaum during the monsoon, which makes the brick-making business a bit tricky to manage. When the weather is clear and the sun is out, though, we are out there from early morning working with the soil. It is a lot of heavy lifting and getting your clothes dirty, but it is the work we have always done. We don't have any big mission or fancy promises to make. We just make bricks for the people around here who want to build a shed or a small house. My sons help me out with the stacking and the loading of the carts when they aren't busy with other things. You will find us right on the road, usually busy with the kiln or moving the finished bricks to the front. It is a quiet village life mostly, except for the heavy trucks that rumble by every now and then. We have been here at post Turamari for a long time, and everyone in the Taluk knows the Jakati name. We just keep at it, one day at a time, through the heat and the rain.
