Brick Field

We've been here in Vill-Mankera for a while now. Most people around Berhumpore know where the field is located. It's just a regular spot where we make bricks. The dust is everywhere, and the kilns stay hot most of the year. We don't have a big office or anything fancy. Just the ground and the work. My family started this, and now I'm the one looking after it along with a few local guys. We wake up early, check the clay, and see how the firing is going. Murshidabad is a good place for this kind of thing because the soil works well for our needs. It isn't easy work, especially when the rain starts. We have to cover everything up fast or the whole batch is ruined. Sometimes the trucks get stuck in the mud near the P.S Berhumpore area. We just deal with it as it happens. People come by, ask for a load, and we get it ready for them. It's a simple life. We don't do much advertising because everyone around here already knows us. The bricks are what they are. They build houses and walls around the district. We just keep the fire going and make sure the count is right when someone buys a batch. It's dusty, hard, and repetitive, but it's what we do here at Brick Field. We have some tea in the afternoons and watch the stacks grow. It’s how it’s always been for us.
