Our office for Kaayaka Craft And Livelihood Foundation is at Plot no 35/6 in Vinayaknagar. This is in the Bajantri layout of Badami, which is up in the Bagalkot district. If you have ever been to Badami, you know it is famous for the caves and the red stone, but our area is just a regular residential layout. It is quite a quiet neighborhood, far away from the tourist spots. The plot has a bit of space around it, and we have a few rooms where we keep our supplies and do our paperwork. The sun gets really hot in this part of Karnataka, so we usually keep the fans running at full speed all day long. The office is pretty basic with some metal racks and a couple of old wooden tables. We don't have a big sign out front, just the address painted near the gate. It is a long way from the big cities, and life moves a bit slower here. We spend our days coordinating things and making sure everything is in order for the livelihood projects. The Bajantri layout is mostly families, so you hear children playing outside in the evenings. It’s a very local feel, and we like that it isn't tucked away in some big industrial park. It feels more like a home than a workplace sometimes. We just show up, do the work that needs doing for the day, and close up the gate.
