Amardeep Sarees

We are located up on the first floor in Reshmi Gali. It’s a very tight little street, especially if there are scooters and bikes parked everywhere. Being near the Bata showroom makes it a bit easier for people to find the turn-off. The shop itself is packed with sarees from wall to wall. We spend hours sorting through the new stock that comes in from the local weavers in the area. Maunath Bhanjan is a busy place for this kind of work, and it shows. The floor is made of old wood and it creaks whenever you walk near the back window. We don't have a lot of help, so it’s usually just me and my nephew running the place. We offer water to whoever comes in because it gets so hot in the afternoons. The shelves are a bit disorganized, but we know where the heavy silk is and where the light cotton is kept. We don't use a computer for our accounts; we still write every sale down in those big red books. It works well enough for us. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit by the window to talk until the lights come back on. It's a slow pace of life inside the shop compared to the chaos outside in the Gali. We like it that way. Most of our customers have been coming to us for decades. We just keep folding and stacking until the day is done.
