Aladin Paper Lamps

We spend a lot of time sitting on these low stools at Aladin Paper Lamps. Auroshilpam is where we have been for a long while now. The morning starts with clearing off the tables from yesterday's scraps and bits. You would be surprised how much paper waste there is when you are making these lamps. Most of what we do is just folding and gluing things by hand. It is quiet work mostly, unless the wind picks up and blows through the open door. Then every light piece of paper starts flying around the room. My hands are usually covered in some kind of paste or ink by noon. We do not have fancy machines or anything like that here. Just some sharp scissors, metal rulers, and plenty of patience. Sometimes the paper is a bit too thick and it will not fold right, so we have to start the whole piece over. It gets frustrating, but that is just how it goes with this kind of stuff. The light in the afternoon is nice in this part of the building. It shows all the different colors of the paper we have stacked up against the back wall. We usually have some tea around four o'clock and talk about what needs to get finished before it gets dark. It is not a big operation at all. It is just us trying to make these things look decent enough so they can be packed away in the crates. The empty boxes take up a lot of space in the corner. We keep an old radio playing in the background most of the time.
